Admiral Radio
Admiral Radio, the husband-and-wife singer-songwriter duo of Becca Smith and Coty Hoover is known for their unique Americana style of musicianship. This duo has created a timeless style and classic sound that speaks for itself. (Kyle Peterson, The Jasper Project) Their name is inspired by an Admiral radio found one day while antique hunting. It didn't mean much to them at the time, but it turns out that Becca had a family connection. Becca’s grandfather had been an Admiral salesman. For Becca and Coty, the name Admiral Radio has acquired new significance. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get lost in the noise. When they think of their '41 Admiral radio, they picture the folks of that era gathered around their radios at night, listening to the evening news. They think of the times those people shared as they huddled 'round together. They imagine a different place and time. (Admiral Radio)
“Leave Me in the Dust”
When Becca and Coty contacted me about doing a session, my immediate thought was a retro styled shoot. To achieve this, we visited two locations in the Columbia area. Our first location was Rosewood Dairy Bar, a small diner started in 1942. While they were closed early that day, we took full advantage of the outdoor seating space and walk-up order window. We then moved over to NoMa Warehouse, a newly renovated artist co-op warehouse that is decorated in vintage and antique pieces from various vendors.
